Natural gas, as a motor fuel, creates benefits for the economy and the environment; which has led many states to offer incentives to help encourage drivers to make the switch to Natural Gas Vehicles (NGVs). These incentives vary widely from state to state, and can include one or more of the following:
- Vehicle Incentives: 25 states currently offer rebates, tax credits or exemptions, and/or grants to reduce the incremental costs of NGVs, as well as exemptions from license fees and other vehicle-related expenses.
- Fuel Incentives: 31 states currently offer partial or full exemptions from fuel taxes, exemptions from sales and use taxes, and/or special utility rates for home refueling.
- Special Privileges: 13 states currently offer one or more privileges for NGV drivers, including access to HOV lanes regardless of the number of vehicle occupants, exemptions from parking fees, and exemptions or extensions for emissions inspections.
With 43 states and the District of Columbia all offering one or more of these types of incentives, there’s a good chance your state is part of the push for natural gas. VNG will help you identify the incentives available, which can make the decision to switch to natural gas even easier.
